DCFS Post Adoption Support Southwest Region

DCFS Post Adoption services provide whole family focused, intensive, short-term families’ therapy for families who are considering disrupting or dissolving their adoption. DCFS Family Preservation services are home-based and whole family focused, however, Family Preservation is an intensive, short-term model for families who are in danger of having a child return to DCFS custody or are considering disrupting or dissolving their adoption.
If the adopted person had been in Utah’s state foster care and was adopted through the Department of Child and Family Services, If the adopted person had been in Utah’s state foster care and was adopted through the Department of Child and Family Services, the DCFS region from which the child was adopted may be able to help with Respite, financial support that comes from grant money. This money is available depending on the grant funding. They also work with children in SPA, and who are SSI eligible.

Every foster parent in the state is invited to attend their local support group (what we used to call “Clusters”). Support groups meet monthly and bring together 15–50 foster, adoptive, kinship, and specific care families. Parents who attend their peer support group gatherings make new friends, share caregiving experiences, and have access to in-person training that counts towards their annual re-licensing training requirements.
